Math students have sharpened their pencils, reviewed formulas, and practiced complex problems in preparation for the Bexar Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition!
Hosted in Texas by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) and the Texas Engineering Foundation, MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide coaching and competition program designed to stimulate the interest and achievement of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in mathematics. Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc. sponsors the Bexar Chapter MATHCOUNTS program and St. Mary's Mathematics professors, staff, and majors volunteer to help run the event.
Because the rigors of the program are equivalent to any athletic program, competitors are called “Mathletes®.” Each school participating in MATHCOUNTS may select up to eight Mathletes to compete in the Chapter contest on Saturday, February 9th. Schools will compete for the right to advance to the State Competition in Austin. At the State contest, students and teachers will vie for State honors, scholarships, and other awards, and the opportunity to represent Texas at the National Competition in Orlando, Fla.
