The End of the World…as We Know It

Some believe that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world will occur in December of 2012. While there is no scientific basis for this prediction—with many believing, like the Mayan elders, that we are merely on the cusp of a new cycle of time— it raises an interesting philosophical questions. What if the world were to end in a few months? What would you do differently? Or, how would we react with a renewed vigor to mitigate many of the concerns that could potentially lead to our downfall? This program explores how we, as members of a Marianist university, are called to respond to the current problems with an urgency we would feel if we could prevent the world from coming to an end.
