Robert L.G. Watson founded Abraxas Petroleum Corporation in 1977 and has continuously served as its President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Abraxas is a San Antonio based publicly traded oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the Rocky Mountain, Mid-Continent, Permian Basin and onshore Gulf Coast regions of the United States and in the province of Alberta, Canada.
From May 1996 to July 2009, Watson also served as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Grey Wolf Exploration Inc., an Alberta based publicly traded oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Prior to forming Abraxas, he held petroleum engineering positions with Tesoro Petroleum Corporation and DeGolyer and MacNaughton.
Watson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1972 and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1974.
